about

We recorded the album in a week live to tape: vocals, guitar, drums and bass all recorded live. I had taught Rick (Bass) the songs a couple of weeks prior though Danny (Drums) had never heard any of them. Once we had the right sound and we were ready to go I would teach Danny and Rick the songs in the studio kitchen with an acoustic guitar. After a beer they were ready. We would go in and Nell (Engineer) would roll the tape. We never did more than three takes. Once a song was done we would go back to the kitchen, have another beer and learn another song. We did this for two days recording 15 songs this way. The rest of the week we recorded Karli Jade (Vocals/Tambourine), The Anderson Sisters on backing vocals, Rick & myself on electric guitar, piano and Hammond from Bill Skermer and trumpet from the legendary Jack Howard. Duncan Yardley provided the lush strings. Nell Forster steered the ship and captured the band beautifully at Soundpark Studio’s in Northcote. Special thanks to my brother Mark Finlay for lending me the cash to finance the recording. A big thanks to James McCann for playing the rough mixes to Seb at Beast. Special thanks to Sebastian at Beast and Ludovic at Binic Festival for taking a punt on us.
The artwork is an oil painting by my best friend Karli Jade. I think its a fine visual representation of the music - it’s road music, desert music - Australian music.
